Melissa Nelson named AP correspondent for Pensacola, Fla.

MIAMI -- Melissa Nelson, a newswoman for The Associated Press in Little Rock, Ark., has been appointed the AP's correspondent in Pensacola.

The promotion was announced Sept. 26 by Florida Chief of Bureau Kevin Walsh.


Nelson has worked since 2000 in Little Rock, where she has covered education and the state legislature.


Nelson previously worked for The Daily Oklahoman from 1996-2000 and was a reporter at the Las Cruces (N.M.) Sun-News from 1994-96.


A native of Oklahoma City, Nelson has a bachelor's degree in news editorial journalism from the University of Missouri.
